Narrator Beginning Key Commands

Starting and Stopping Narrator

1. Press Windows Key and hit Enter (left arrow and then hit Enter when box pops up) to start Narrator.

2. Press Caps Lock and hit Escape to stop or close Narrator, or press Windows Key and hit Enter one time.

Quick Change Narrator Settings Key Commands

1. Caps Lock + or - increase or decrease voice speed.

2. Caps Lock Page Up or Page Down increase or decrease voice volume.

3. Caps Lock F12 turn on or off keystroke reading.

4. Caps Lock x to have Narrator ignore the next keystroke you make (this is known as a pass through key).

5. Caps Lock a change verbosity (how much speech is issued by Narrator).

6. Caps Lock ~ set focus to item.

Beginning Narrator Reading Key Commands

1. Caps Lock m reads from where you are.

a. Caps Lock y moves to beginning of text.

b. Caps Lock b moves to end of text.

c. Caps Lock h reads document.

d. Caps Lock Control i reads current paragraph.

e. Caps Lock Control o reads current line.

f. Caps Lock Control p reads current word.

2. Caps Lock w reads the window you are in.

3. Control stops reading.

4. Caps Lock r read all items in the containing area.

5. Caps Lock f read advanced info about item.

6. Caps Lock s read item spelled out.

7. Caps Lock d Read item you are on.

8. Caps Lock v repeat phrase.

9. Caps Lock F1 displays Narrator command list.

10. Caps Lock F2 displays Narrator commands for the item you are on.
